Hello! My name is Helena Day Breese and I’m a photographer who specializes in photojournalism and environmental portraiture.
My clients are people and organizations who want their lives and work documented using photography.
I take photographs that capture a person’s personality or, in the case of an organization, portray their type of work and achievements in an engaging way.
I believe that a successful environmental portrait captures a person in a setting that makes them feel happy – be that at home, outdoors or in their creative/work space – often doing things that they love to do. I endeavor to make a portraiture experience a relaxed one, even for the most camera shy.
As a photojournalist I photograph events as they unfold and without intrusion, capturing a moment for posterity, either with a single photograph or a series of photographs.
I also write. I interview and profile some of the people I photograph. I write about places that are a bit off the well beaten pathways of the world and I also bring to light, with images and words, the everyday and common place things in our lives, things that are so familiar they too, like an unbeaten path, have disappeared from view.
My work has been published: Guys and Garages, 2008 Globe Pequote Press, Noozhawk newspaper, Santa Barbara News Press and Patagonia Winter Catalog.
I was born in the UK and grew up in London. Home is both England and California and I consider myself an “explorer” driven by a curiosity to see, learn more and share and educate. Photography is the medium I chose to record my discoveries. 1% of my earnings is used to benefit our planet.
